Creative Movement sessions

Working in mainstream and specialist schools, I can offer inclusive and fun creative movement sessions, including:
- A Day of Dance – Dance workshops for every year group in a day (EYFS through to Year 6).
- Weekly/termly dance sessions for a whole class.
- Small group and 1:1 movement therapy sessions.
- Preparation for local dance festivals for KS1 and KS2.
Within each session I can:
- Link to year group topics and make cross-curricular links.
- Incorporate story themes and use sensory props as stimuli.
- Incorporate mark making and other creative arts to support early writing, reading and mathematical development.
- Provide opportunities for children to learn dance material and to develop choreographic skills.
Throughout each workshop there are activities to increase the heartbeat, support communication, encourage creativity and self-expression through movement, and a focus on breath and mindfulness.
Folk dancing workshops

Folk dancing is a great way for children to simply enjoy the feeling of moving to music!
Folk dance is ‘socially inclusive…where no one stands out or is being judged’.
During these engaging sessions, children will learn and participate in traditional folk dances, discover the historical and cultural context that underpins them and have opportunities to improvise their own moves within the traditional folk-dance frameworks.
Folk dance encourages and helps children to develop:
Physical fitness
Co-ordination
Balance
Core-strength
Musicality
Creativity
Self-expression
Collaboration
Teamwork
Problem solving
The sessions are designed to be highly engaging, providing a fun challenge for children, leading to a real sense of achievement.
Guaranteed to raise a smile and bring a wonderful sense of well being to all involved!
Project Miro!

Join us on a creative arts adventure!
6 sessions across the term using the painting, L’Oro dell’Azzurro by Joan Miro as a stimulus for creative exploration and inspiration!
Sessions can be easily adapted to meet the needs of children ranging from EYFS through to Year 4.
Over the course of the project, your children will develop skills in art and design, dance, choreography, musical composition and performance.
Produce visual musical scores and dance maps, experiment with and combine found sounds and percussion, movement and art!
Project Miro! also provides fantastic opportunities for transferable skills and incidental learning, including:
- Mathematical concepts of sequencing, shape, counting and coding.
- Literacy development by decoding, conveying ideas confidently and representing ideas through mark making.
- Developing communication and problem-solving skills.
Designed to engage and inspire children.
Sherborne Developmental Movement

Sherborne Developmental Movement (SDM) is an inclusive therapeutic approach to movement education. It has been created specially as an innovative and inclusive experience which is adaptable, collaborative, challenging and great fun.
Each session promotes ‘total engagement in the movement itself, at whatever level and without judgement’.
SDM was developed by Veronica Sherborne and at the heart of Sherborne’s approach to movement teaching was the belief that children ‘need to feel at home in their bodies…and they need to be able to form relationships’.
As a practitioner of SDM, I have been trained to carefully observe how children move, to respond and then to use these observations to create meaningful, relevant and enjoyable movement experiences for all participants.
Sessions can be tailored to focus on specific movement developmental needs of the child and help to develop core strength and a feeling of balance in the body.
Through the fun, joyful and meaningful movement experiences, children can become more aware of their body, confident in the way they move, aware of the space around them and begin to interact effectively with others – developing self-confidence and a secure sense of their own identity.
Sessions can help to build learning power, challenge thinking and increase problem solving.
‘Movement experiences are fundamental to the development of all children’
